The Sri Satya Sai University of Technology & Medical Sciences Sehore was established in 1999 with the inception of Sri Satya Sai Institute of Science & Technology (SSSIST). The school of Medical Sciences has recently been established in the year 2024 to offer the course of MBBS to all aspiring medical students of India.

By the year 2012, thanks to the vision of its promoters, the Sehore Campus had expanded to include twelve colleges, offering twenty undergraduate courses, twenty postgraduate courses, one postgraduate diploma course, and one diploma course, with a total student intake of 3,054. 

The SSSUTMS attracts numerous students from distant places and states due to its high-quality education at an affordable cost, with a transparent no-hidden-fees policy. Over its fourteen-year history, the institutions under the Sri Satya Sai Group of Institutions have been the only ones in Sehore and six nearby districts to offer technical education at affordable fees to deserving and needy students from over six thousand villages across 34 Tehsils.

The majority of the local population depends on agriculture for their livelihood, with 80.6% living at a low standard of living. The region has recently recorded a growth rate of 21.5%.
