Admission Procedure MBBS in Tamil Nadu

Tamil Nadu is one of the most demanded states for medical education in India, offering many government and private medical colleges. 

The admission process for MBBS in Tamil Nadu follows the guidelines set by the National Medical Commission (NMC) and the Directorate of Medical Education (DME), Tamil Nadu. The admission is based on the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET-UG) run by the National Testing Agency (NTA). 

1. Eligibility criteria To be eligible for  admission to MBBS in Tamil Nadu, candidates have to fulfill the following criteria: Eligible NEET-NG should be 2025. 

    • An Indian citizen should be a foreign national (OCI) of India, or a non -resident Indian (NRI). Physics, chemistry, biology/biotechnology and English should be completed as core subjects with 10+2 or equivalent. 
    • PCB will receive at least 50%of the total marks (40%for SC/ST/OBC, 45%for PWD candidates). 
    • The age of 17 years should be completed by 31 December, 2025. 

2. The admission process MBBS in Tamil Nadu includes several stages, including registration, consultation, seat allocation and final admission.

Step 1: NEET-UG Examination

    • Candidates must appear for the NEET-UG 2025 and secure the minimum required cutoff percentile.
    • NEET-UG is the only entrance exam for MBBS admission in Tamil Nadu and across India.

Step 2: Registration for Counseling

    • Round 1 Counseling: Candidates select their favorite colleges on merit basis. 
    • Round 2 counseling: If the seats remain vacant, the second round is held.

Step 5: Document Verification and Fee Payment

Candidates have to report to the Medical College allotted with the following documents:
